  • Overview

    Solarflare Communications, Ltd. is situated in the heart of Cambridge at the Westbrook Centre, Milton Road.  We are looking for a part time Financial Controller.   This is a great opportunity to work within a highly motivated team in a relaxed, but professional and supportive environment.  You will report to the Corporate Controller at our Head Office in Irvine, California.  This is an interesting and varied role and requires someone who is really organised, self-sufficient and a great team player.  You will have line management responsibility for the Finance Manager in Cambridge.  Solarflare can offer a flexible working environment and there is plenty of scope to negotiate the hours you work.  We are looking for someone to work at least 20 hours per week.


    • Provide timely and accurate financial information for the UK business
    • Monthly review and approval of balance sheet reconciliations including cash, purchase ledgers, fixed assets, accruals & prepayments
    • Prepare reports and plans, undertake analysis of financial data/accounts as requested
    • Manage the implementation and ongoing enhancement of accounting and reporting processes
    • Ensure that all reporting/submission deadlines and requirements are met
    • Monitor and forecast cash flow
    • Oversee the production of quarterly VAT returns and the integrity of the VAT accounting system
    • Produce the annual and interim financial statements
    • Line management of the Finance Manager
    • Prepare monthly payroll on Sage
    • Prepare tax information for submitting company returns
    • Prepare financial information for year-end audit purposes
    • Liaise with and manage external auditors
    • Oversee budgetary control including analysis of variances and explore potential problems


    • Able to work with Great Plains, Concur and Sage
    • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA)
    • Able to establish good relationships with customers and colleagues, builds wide and effective networks and relates well to people at all levels
    • Resilient and copes well under pressure
    • Highly organised and able to meet tight deadlines
    • Accurate; attention to detail
    • Have the ability to make prompt, clear decisions and acts with confidence
    • Be flexible; to deal with the differing demands of this role and changing or conflicting priorities
    • Be proactive and highly motivated, solution focused
    • Strong Excel spreadsheet abilities
    • Although not essential, experience of working in a global organization, partnering with India and USA
