    Solarflare Communications is seeking a Senior Test Automation Engineer to join our team in Cambridge UK. Our ideal candidate must have a willingness to roll up your sleeves with a “can do” attitude. This is an analytical position which requires an inquisitive mind, resourcefulness, attention to detail, and a strong ability to problem solve. The Senior Test Automation Engineer will design, write, execute and support comprehensive test cases using modern test frameworks, based on defined and extrapolated use cases.

    Responsibilities

    The following are an indicative list of job responsibilities.  

    • Developing unit tests, test cases and automated system-level tests
    • Running automated tests, isolating failures and reducing bugs
    • Debugging test cases and helping analyze results
    • Documenting automated test cases
    • Ensuring an efficient and effective handover to test engineers of newly developed test cases
    • Creating test plans, documenting test plans and set-ups
    • Configuring test set-ups
    • Triaging, analyzing and reporting test results
    • Assisting with root cause analysis
    • Working from an SRS to specify appropriate test cases
    • Participating in initial stage design meetings to help identify test issues early in the product lifecycle
    • Performing manual tests and recording results
    • Raising bugs and providing clear explanations
    • Ensuring that all results and the information in defect-tracking systems is up to date

    Qualifications

    The following are an indicative list of skills.  Specific skills may vary depending on the business needs and the project requirements.

    • Able to communicate effectively and clearly with a range of audiences
    • Ability to interpret requirements and distill appropriate test cases
    • Ability to write effective, efficient and clean software for test and test automation purposes
    • Ability to locate a failure in source code / scripts
    • Good working knowledge of computer networking products
    • General product knowledge of virtualization technologies

    Educational  and Job Experience Qualifications: 

    • Typically a degree or HND in a relevant technical subject (Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or Physics) or equivalent qualification or substitute relevant experience
    • Experience in a test role (typically at least 5 years)
    • Ability to configure Linux and Windows systems
    • Good understanding of PC architecture
    • Solid bug reporting / triage skills
    • Experience of protocols – TCP, IP, UDP, ICMP, ARP
    • Performance of tests and ability to isolate failures and reduce bugs
