Solarflare Communications is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to join our team in Cambridge UK. Our ideal candidate must have a willingness to roll up your sleeves with a “can do” attitude. This is an analytical position which requires an inquisitive mind, resourcefulness, attention to detail, and a strong ability to problem solve. The Senior Test Engineer who will be responsible for writing, building and execution of comprehensive test cases using modern test frameworks from defined use cases.

Responsibilities

The following are an indicative list of job responsibilities.  

  • Work from requirement document to specify the appropriate test cases
  • Identify new test cases where appropriate
  • Perform manual tests and record results
  • Schedule and run automated tests
  • Triage and analyse results
  • Able to apply and understand scientific principles in running experiments and investigating failures
  • Use collected historic result data to aid analysis
  • Raise bugs with clear explanations
  • Report results accurately
  • Identify trends and patterns
  • Summarise findings succinctly for a wider audience
  • Ensure all results and defect-tracking systems (Bugzilla) are up to date
  • Verify bug fixes and re-open or mark as verified as appropriate
  • Keep the test cases documented up to date
  • Check that the overnight reports are generated correctly, and any breakages are fixed promptly or reported

Qualifications

The Senior Test Engineer must have the following qualified skill set: 

  • Able to communicate effectively and clearly
  • Ability to locate a failure in source code / scripts
  • Good working knowledge of computer networking products
  • General Product knowledge - knows the features and limitations of Xen, KVM, VMWare
  • General product knowledge of virtualization technologies
  • Creating Test Plans

Educational  and Job Experience Qualifications: 

  • Typically a degree or HND in a relevant technical subject (Computer Science, Electronic Engineering or Physics) or equivalent qualification or substitute relevant experience
  • Experience in a test role (typically at least 5 years)
  • Ability to configure Linux and Windows systems
  • Good understanding of PC architecture
  • Solid bug reporting / triage skills
  • Experience of protocols – TCP, IP, UDP, ICMP, ARP
  • Performance of tests and ability to isolate failures and reduce bugs
