Our Solarflare R&D Facility in Cambridge UK is looking for a Software Application Engineer to join our World-Class Customer Support team.  In this position you will be a key team member supporting our growing customer base.  This role would suit engineers with a strong interest in networking and who thrive on investigating and troubleshooting a substantial code base written in C.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assisting customers in designing their applications to achieve the best low-latency network performance using Solarflare's network adapters, Onload middleware and layer 2 API.
  • Diagnosing bottlenecks for high throughput packet capture. Optimizing Linux kernel network stack performance to suit application needs.
  • Participating in the software development process.
  • Delivering training to customers on-site as well as remotely.
  • Working closely with the software development team to provide 1st to 3rd line technical support for the network adapter product range
  • As we have customers worldwide, the team provides 24-hour support, which will require some on-call duties, usually from home outside of normal working hours.

Qualifications

We are looking for engineers with a strong academic background.  This is an ideal opportunity for your first move into a customer focused role whilst working on complex products and technical problems.  Your skills and knowledge will include:

  • A PhD, first class or 2:1 degree from a well ranked university in a numerical subject (e.g. computer science, math or physics)
  • Proven commercial experience developing in C
  • Knowledge of Linux and Socket programming
  • Knowledge of networking (TCP/IP, Ethernet)
  • Desire to work closely with customers
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships
